An approximation of competence

Nice.

Uh oh. This is going to take hours of my day away from me. Who fancies a game of “Rock Paper Scissors Spock Lizard”

Ahhhh, at last. A bacon sandwich. Being a muslim country, it’s hard to find pig-related products in Malaysia. However, a supermarket in an ex-pat area has a special part of the store dedicated to ‘non-halal’ food. Including bacon! I was so excited about this I was forced to buy 5 packets of the stuff and arrange an ex-pat breakfast with others who live in the same appartment building as me.
I think we have condender for the next Edward R. Murrow.

Mike and Angel are moving into their new home today. Best of luck guys - hope it’s everything you need it to be.
PS Get the spare room ready for early next year - I wanna come visit!
PPS It dawned on me the other day that they’re not buying a house, they’re building a home. Which gave me a nice tingly feeling.
PPPS Now I miss the warm tingly feeling, I’m off to hunt for other things that can induce it ![]()
I just joined the $100 laptop for $300 pledge over at pledgebank.
“I will purchase the $100 laptop at $300 but only if 100,000 other will too.”
The idea being that I get one laptop, and two are sent to the developing world on my behalf. Seems like a) a good cause and b) a good way to get my hands on a cheap laptop!
The count is way down at less than 3500 with only the remainder of October to go. I’m not hopeful that the pledge will be met, but, if there are 96,500 people like me out there who are holding out to the last minute then we might just make it.
Some people backpack round Asia on a shoestring budget, scraping by counting the pennies and living with the minimal of expense. I, on the other hand, will be checking into the Bali Grand Hyatt for a long weekend for some well deserved rest and relaxation.
My plan is to sit next to one of the pools (it has six. 6 I tell you!) with a good book, no mobile phone, a cold beer and a view of the pretty girlies in bikinis by the beach. If I can arrange a cure young local in a grass skirt and a coconut shell bra cooling me with a fan and peeling grapes for me, then my life is complete.
The exchange rate for Bali is quite high, so my 1000 MR (approx £150) has netted me several million Rupiah.
I’ll let you all know how I get on with the coconut girl ![]()
Had a long conversation with Kate last night about getting older and how our lives were changing, then today on Sinfest I’m asked “Where is my life going?”

Sigh…
And now for some pick-me-ups - Hat tip to Kevin at Strange Attractor
“Most managers point and say to their staff: Go that way. That’s where the future is. But leaders say: I’m heading in towards our future. Follow me.”
“When the winds of change blow, some build shields against the wind but others build wind mills.”

In other news, the Ig Nobel awards announce their winners. I really like the fact that the recipients pay for their own expenses to attend the ceremony and receive the award - gives a nice warm feeling that people don’t take themselves too seriously.
