Damn, missed British Bacon Week

Tuesday, February 27th, 2007

How could someone not have told me about this? The 19th - 25th Feb was ‘British Bacon Education Week’. All I did was have a breakfast club bacon and sausage sandwich with Erika and Rebecca (and that was coincidence).

Funny tasting tea

What did we learn today? When buying Malaysian milk, always turn the carton round so that you can read the small print that says “Banana Flavoured Milk”.

That way, your tea doesn’t taste funny the following day.

Many happy returns to my overly talented brother - keep up the good work, there’s light at the end of the tunnel and I’m insanely proud of you.

There’s something delightfully silly about all the fan of Father Ted all meeting on an island for a conference that includes Priests versus Nuns Football Tournament, a Guided Fancy Dress Walk around the island, the Father Jack Cocktail Evening, a midnight Crazy Golf Championship, and - in the style of the show itself - a Lovely Girls contest. Quickly followed by a 1.30am a ‘Hide the Nun and Seek’ contest.

Tickets are sold out, but details are at http://www.friendsofted.org/.

Pros and Cons

Thursday, February 22nd, 2007

Using the phrase “Pros and Cons” in a document, I was curious as to what the Pro and Con actually stood for.

Pro, from the latin, meaning “On behalf of”

Con, abbreviation of Latin “contra”, against.

This may not be blogworthy, but it’s 5am now, and my brain is made of jam, so it interested me :-)

Here be Dragons

Chinese New Year is quite a big event here in Malaysia (with about a third of the population being Chinese). Those pesky chinese dragons got everywhere. They raided the FujiFilm store downstairs.

Some even got into the office.

But nothing beats the traditional Carlsburg CNY display. How a Dutch beer gets to cash in on CNY is beyond me, but, there you go.

The real benefit was that I had two extra days off (which I spent fixing the server -see previous post).

Server downtime

Tuesday, February 20th, 2007

Eeeeek. It all got a bit hairy then.
My powerswtich got a case of amnesia and forgot it had things plugged into it. Opps. It then looks like it randomly turned off my server, killing the RAID array and the boot sector on the way down.
Something is wrong

Luckily my colo host uk solutions who come highly recommended were complete stars and have been helping me sort things out remotely. A case of beer is heading their way!

Still in the early stages of recovery, but good progress so far.
