BBC readers pan Vista

Oh dear. It looks like Bill has pissed off quite a few of the readers on the BBC’s website.

Will you be getting Microsoft Vista? The answer is a resounding No.

No doubt this is a good excuse for the Linux and Mac fan boys to engage in some Microsoft bashing but there is a larger picture here. The more vocal the more ‘technical’ members of society are, the more the ‘general public’ will learn that there is an alternative to Windows and may even begin to question the reason that everyone uses it. All we need now is a viable alternative. Linux is making great strides in this department (and Apple has always led the way - Did I really just say that?) but still isn’t at a stage where I could install it and give it to my mum to use.

Perhaps a ‘migrate to opensource’ guide is a good idea. Another project perhaps?

Of course you can state that “Apple has always led the way”. You now own an iPod Nano - this means that you are part of the Cult that is Apple… no turning back now!

I know, it’s a slippery slope. Actually I think that Mike started it all when he converted over to a Mac. Damn.

Geeks fighting a tribal war over computers. You couldn’t make it up really could you?
