A whiter shade of pale

Thursday, February 8th, 2007

No, I’ve not been doing “cartwheels ‘cross the floor”, but I did go outside for 10 minutes today at about midday, so now I’m actually a pinker shade of pale.

It turns out that me, my skin and the Sun have a hate-hate-hate relationship.

Update: Now I’m peeling. Urgh.

Sitting round the pool yesterday with Nick playing his ukulele, me accompanying on makeshift bongos (a Tupperware sandwich box), Ben and Becs singing along and SheHo providing some glamour I was reminded of this guy.

Turns Jake Shimabukuro out he has his own website and a fan club. Aren’t the internets wonderful.

The whole ‘I have a dream’ speech.

I’ve always heard the smaller ‘I have a dream’ segment of Dr Martin Luther King Jr’s speech. But here it is in its full glory.

BBC readers pan Vista

Friday, February 2nd, 2007

Oh dear. It looks like Bill has pissed off quite a few of the readers on the BBC’s website.

Will you be getting Microsoft Vista? The answer is a resounding No.

No doubt this is a good excuse for the Linux and Mac fan boys to engage in some Microsoft bashing but there is a larger picture here. The more vocal the more ‘technical’ members of society are, the more the ‘general public’ will learn that there is an alternative to Windows and may even begin to question the reason that everyone uses it. All we need now is a viable alternative. Linux is making great strides in this department (and Apple has always led the way - Did I really just say that?) but still isn’t at a stage where I could install it and give it to my mum to use.

Perhaps a ‘migrate to opensource’ guide is a good idea. Another project perhaps?

Keep the BBC DRM free!

Thursday, February 1st, 2007

Go here:BBC

Answer the questions respectly.

Point out that using DRM is a boneheaded decision. Respectfully.

Seriously though, the BBC should be pushing boundaries in broadcasting, but using DRM to cripple the content and force everyone to use Microsoft Windows as a platform is not in keeping with the principals of the BBC. Lets hope that we can change their mind.
